What Makes You Feel “Not Bi Enough”—and What Helps?

Many bisexual people understand logically that bisexuality does not require equal attraction, experience with multiple genders, or a particular relationship history. Even so, feeling “not bi enough” can be difficult to escape.

The doubt may appear because you have mostly dated one gender, are in a relationship that other people read as straight or gay, discovered bisexuality later in life, rarely experience attraction beyond one gender, or do not feel visibly connected to LGBTQ+ culture.

Sometimes the pressure comes from other people. At other times, stereotypes become internal rules that make you question every attraction, relationship, label, or lack of experience.

Self-acceptance does not always make this doubt disappear. Comparison, changing attraction, relationship status, online conversations, or seeing other people’s experiences may cause the insecurity to return—even when you already know that bisexuality is not measured by dating history, visibility, certainty, or equal attraction.

You should not have to perform bisexuality, disclose private experiences, or provide proof before you are allowed to belong.

What has made you feel “not bi enough”—and what helped you trust your own experience more? Has that doubt ever returned after you thought you had accepted yourself?

Please avoid comparing who is “more bisexual.” Share only what feels comfortable, and do not provide personal, sexual, or relationship details to prove that your identity is real.
