Bisexual representation often focuses on young people discovering their identity, beginning to date, or coming out for the first time.
Those stories matter, but they can leave older bisexual people difficult to find on screen, in books, and in public conversations. There are fewer visible stories about recognising bisexuality later in life, remaining bisexual through long-term relationships, dating after loss or divorce, ageing within LGBTQ+ communities, or simply living an ordinary life after the questioning stage has passed.
The absence can affect younger people too. Without older bisexual characters, it may be harder to imagine what bisexual life can look like beyond early adulthood, dating drama, or a single coming-out storyline.
Older representation should not be limited to regret or missed opportunities. It can also include friendship, humour, established relationships, new beginnings, community, confidence, and changing understandings of identity.
