What Helps When You Feel Disconnected From Your Bisexuality?

Bisexuality can remain a real part of someone’s identity while feeling distant or difficult to connect with.

This may happen during a long-term relationship, after spending little time around LGBTQ+ people, or when everyday responsibilities leave little room to think about identity. Someone may also pull away after rejection, biphobia, an uncomfortable community experience, or a period when their attractions feel less noticeable.

Feeling disconnected does not mean your bisexuality has disappeared or that you need to prove it through dating, visibility, or physical exploration. For some people, reconnecting means finding community, reading a familiar story, speaking with a trusted person, or using the word bisexual again. For others, allowing the identity to remain quietly in the background feels healthier than trying to force a stronger connection.

Have you ever felt disconnected from your bisexuality, and what—if anything—helped it feel like part of you again?

Please speak from your own experience and avoid suggesting that someone must become more visible, date particular genders, or participate in LGBTQ+ spaces to reconnect with their identity.
