Many bisexual people find support in broader LGBTQ+ communities, friendship groups, online spaces, or relationships where bisexuality is understood without needing a separate bi-focused community.
Others value spaces created specifically around bisexual experiences. Subjects such as being judged by a current partner’s gender, feeling “not bi enough,” changing patterns of attraction, or navigating both straight and queer spaces may feel easier to discuss with people who recognise those experiences immediately.
A bisexual-specific space is not automatically more inclusive. It still needs thoughtful moderation, privacy boundaries, and room for different genders, relationship histories, ages, cultures, and levels of certainty. At the same time, having a place where bisexuality is not treated as a side issue can create a different kind of recognition.
People may also need different things at different times: broader LGBTQ+ solidarity in one setting and more focused bisexual conversation in another.
Have bisexual-specific spaces given you something that broader communities did not—or have you found the support you needed elsewhere?
Please speak from your own experience without suggesting that every bisexual person must seek community in the same kind of space.
