What If Pride Events Don’t Feel Like Your Kind of Community?

Pride events can offer visibility, celebration, and connection, but they do not feel comfortable or meaningful to everyone.

Large crowds, nightlife, noise, cost, accessibility barriers, commercial branding, or fear of being recognised may make participation difficult. Some bisexual people also attend Pride and still feel overlooked, especially when their identity is judged through their current relationship or when bisexual experiences receive little visible attention.

Not enjoying Pride does not mean you are ashamed, disconnected from LGBTQ+ people, or less supportive of equality. Community can also be found through smaller discussion groups, friendships, volunteering, online spaces, cultural events, or quieter forms of recognition that do not involve public celebration.

Others may value Pride deeply while still wishing it were more accessible, bisexual-inclusive, or welcoming to people who attend alone.

Have Pride events ever helped you feel connected—or made you realise that you needed a different kind of community?

Please respect both people who value Pride and those who do not feel comfortable participating. Avoid treating public visibility as a requirement for belonging.
