What Helps You Trust Bisexual Community Again After a Bad Experience?

A negative experience in one bisexual or LGBTQ+ space can make joining another community feel difficult.

You may have been ignored, pressured to disclose more than you wanted, stereotyped because of your relationship, drawn into unwanted flirting, or made to feel that your age, gender, culture, experience, or level of visibility did not belong. Even when a new community appears different, it can be difficult not to expect the same problems again.

Rebuilding trust does not require pretending the earlier experience was unimportant. Some people begin by reading quietly, checking how moderators respond to difficult situations, or noticing whether boundaries are respected consistently. Others need distance from community spaces before trying again.

A trustworthy space cannot promise that every interaction will feel comfortable. It can show that harmful behaviour is addressed, disagreement has limits, privacy is taken seriously, and members are not pressured to perform one particular version of bisexuality.

Have you ever withdrawn from bisexual community after a negative experience—and what helped, or would help, you feel safe enough to try another space?

Please avoid identifying individual members or organising criticism of another community. Focus on the behaviour, boundaries, and signs of trust that mattered to you.
