What If There Is No Visible Bisexual Community Where You Live?

Finding bisexual community can be especially difficult when you live in a small town, rural area, conservative region, or somewhere without visible LGBTQ+ organisations.

There may be general Pride events or social groups nearby, but little that clearly includes bisexual experiences. Travelling to larger cities may be expensive or impractical, and joining local spaces can feel risky when privacy matters or everyone seems connected.

Online communities can provide recognition and conversation, but they do not always replace friendship, practical support, or the feeling of knowing people nearby. Some people create connection through broader LGBTQ+ groups, interest-based activities, occasional events, or a small circle of trusted friends rather than through a formal bisexual organisation.

A lack of visible community does not mean you are the only bisexual person in your area. It may simply mean that others are also private, uncertain, or waiting for signs that participation would be safe.

Have you lived somewhere with little or no visible bisexual community—and what helped you find connection or cope with its absence?

Please avoid posting exact locations or private meeting details. General regions, types of spaces, and lessons learned are enough.
