Did Coming Out as Bisexual Change Any of Your Friendships?

Coming out to a friend can feel like sharing something important with someone you already trust. Sometimes the friendship continues exactly as before. Other times, even a supportive reaction can be followed by unexpected changes.

A friend might become more distant, ask personal questions, make awkward jokes, or suddenly interpret ordinary closeness as romantic or sexual interest.

Some people experience the opposite. Being open about their bisexuality helps them feel more understood, strengthens an existing friendship, or makes conversations more honest.

These changes can be confusing, especially when someone says they accept you but starts behaving differently afterward.

Not every awkward reaction means rejection. Some friends need time to understand something unfamiliar. But acceptance should not require you to tolerate invasive questions, stereotypes, unwanted attention, or repeated disrespect.

Did coming out as bisexual change how any of your friends treated you?

Did the friendship become closer, more distant, uncomfortable, or eventually return to normal?

If something changed, what helped you decide whether to talk about it, set a boundary, give the friendship time, or step away?

Share only what feels comfortable, and please respect other people's privacy.
