What Made Bisexual, Pansexual or Another Label Feel Right for You?

People sometimes talk about bisexual and pansexual as if there must be one clear rule separating them. In practice, people can experience very similar patterns of attraction and still choose different words for themselves.

For some people, bisexual has been the right label for years. Others prefer pansexual because of how they experience gender in attraction. Some use both, switch labels over time, prefer queer, or decide that getting the definition exactly right is less important than finding language that feels comfortable.

Sometimes the choice is also shaped by when you first learned about a label, the communities you found, how easily other people understand it, or simply which word feels most like you.

What made bisexual, pansexual or another label feel right for you?

Has your choice of label changed even when your underlying attractions stayed fairly similar? And has anyone ever tried to tell you that you were using the “wrong” one?

Share only what feels comfortable.
